I have to question the ability of some PGA officials to rule properly on certain controversial issues like the one that was given in the last PGA Championship. The ruling given to Dustin Johnson was one of the most erroneous rulings ever made.

The definition of a bunker is: A hazard consisting of a prepared area of ground, often a hollow, from which turf or soil has been removed and replaced with sand or the like. The reasoning given by the PGA official for the penalty was that there were so many sandy spots on the golf course that they were all deemed to be a hazard. He even said some of them were no bigger than his hat. Now if the place where Dustin Johnson hit his shot from could be considered a hazard then there is no reason to maintain any bunkers on any golf course in the world. All you would have to do to create a bunker would be to accidentally dump a wheelbarrow full of sand somewhere on the golf course and you would have an instant hazard.
