THREE Hervey Bay service clubs will know in two weeks whether they will be cleared to move from one end of town to the other.

This week the council voted to give the green light to Fraser Lions, Hervey Bay Lions and the Bay's Apex Club to move from the sports and leisure park precinct into the Halcro Street, Point Vernon site tagged for a community centre and garden.

The land can accommodate up to four sheds and the council is prepared to bitumen the site for $6000 to accommodate the three clubs.

But at the Wednesday council meeting in Maryborough, Councillor David Dalgleish said he'd had a phone call the day before from "a member of the Lions Club" who was "distressed" at the news the club was about to change location.

"He wants the move deferred," Cr Dalgleish said.

"He doesn't have to move straight away," Mayor Mick Kruger replied.

Councillor Belinda McNeven, at her first meeting after coming off the federal election hustings, said other service clubs might want to be part of the plan. …
