Eastwood Won't Make Panthers' Day

PENRITH chief executive Mick Leary has ruled out the NRL club chasing Greg Eastwood as a replacement for departing second-rower Frank Pritchard.

A homesick Eastwood is keen to get out of his contract with English Super League club Leeds and his blockbusting style makes him similar in many ways to Pritchard, who signed a three-year deal with Canterbury on Wednesday.

However, Leeds is seeking an $A175,000 transfer fee to let go of Eastwood just one year into a three-year deal with the Rhinos.

Leary said the transfer fee made things difficult and all but ruled out the possibility of the Panthers replacing one Kiwi international with another.

"Most probably not, no. I wouldn't be investigating that at all," he said.

Eastwood's agent David Riolo said his client's negotiations had been put on hold while he plays the Challenge Cup final this weekend.

Riolo said the transfer figure was not completely set in stone and was open to bargaining with the Super League club. …
