Montgomerie Open to a Late Change of Mind; RYDER CUP GOLF

COLIN Montgomerie knows the players he currently wants as his Ryder Cup wild cards - but is prepared to have his mind changed before he names them on Sunday.

With one qualifying event to go -this week's Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles - three automatic spots are still up for grabs, with Montgomerie's trio of captain's picks completing the team.

"I do have a preferred three in my head, but I am sure something will happen here that will change that," said Montgomerie.

Italian Francesco Molinari, Swede Peter Hanson - last week's winner of the Czech Open - and Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez are in position to make it automatically at the moment, but England's Ross McGowan and Simon Dyson and Spain's Alvaro Quiros could yet force their way in. The big talking point, however, is the absence of Paul Casey, Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald from Scotland.

They could have made the side -Casey and Harrington by finishing fifth and Donald by winning - but have preferred to stay in America for the start of the FedEx Cup play-offs. …
