PUTTING their minds and bodies to the ultimate test, Ipswich Grammar students are preparing to take part in the state's largest youth technology and sporting event.

They will join more than 2000 of Queensland's most inventive students with a thirst for speed, a bent for technology and an eye to the future at the RACQ Technology Challenge Maryborough from September 11-12.

Ipswich Grammar teacher Ken Lightbody said 32 students in four teams would take part in the 24-hour, human-powered vehicle state championship.

Almost 100 teams would use the latest technology to create machines they race around an inner-city street circuit at blistering speeds.

C[pounds sterling]A lot of the boys have their own preparation routine,C[yen] Mr Lightbody said.

C[pounds sterling]There are a handful who ride normal road and mountain bikes.

C[pounds sterling]It is very much about building up their cross fitness and getting them involved in cross-country and into the gym on to stationary bikes. …
