Miners Dig Deep to Stave off Second-Half Comeback by Crocs

MORANBAH gave warning that they will be hard to beat for the Skills Training Cup premiership by eliminating Sarina in their second knockout final in succession at the JRL grounds yesterday.

The 32-26 win, which came after a thrilling duel in the second half in which the Crocodiles had fought back to 26-all, has set up a replay of the 2009 grand final against Souths this coming Sunday in the preliminary final.

Souths won last season's encounter 37-34, but only one team will advance from Sunday's game to take on Brothers in the grand final on September 12.

"We did well to hang on," Moranbah coach Craig Menkins said of yesterday's match during which the talented young Sarina side looked a chance of overrunning the Miners after levelling late in the second half.

"They all played well, I can't pick a man of the match. …
