Crash Cuts Foot off Passenger

A MILK truck delivery driver was fined $1200 for a crash which severed his passenger's foot.

Ipswich Magistrates Court heard Cameron Shane William Rode had worked two six-and-a-half hour driving shifts on September 30 last year before starting at his other job delivering milk.

But on his route to Ipswich that night, Rode momentarily dozed off. Despite the passenger screaming out and Rode trying to swerve, the truck smashed into a parked car, crushing the passenger side of the cabin.

Prosecutor Acting Senior Constable Jo Colston said the passenger's left foot was severed in the crash.

Police later spoke to Rode, who was unable to explain why he crashed, but the passenger claimed the 28-year-old appeared to have fallen asleep.

Rode, who has six pages of traffic history, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention. He was fined $1200, disqualified from driving for three months and ordered to pay $72. …
