Back in the Rider's Seat; Kerrie Meares Comes out of Retirement to Promote Region

KERRIE Meares is back on her bike Co albeit for a bit of fun and for a good cause.

Meares is enjoying the time away from competitive cycling and will be back on the bike this morning for the start of today's Cycle Queensland tour.

The recently retired track star will be a part of a team of five local- grown people who are giving back to the community as part of a Capricorn Tourism and Economic Development team.

Among them are Commonwealth Games gold medallist Kenrick Tucker and former National Rugby League star Justin Loomans.

The event begins in Yeppoon, and upon arriving in Bundaberg, participants will be able to unclip their shoes and put their feet up after nine days on the road.

Meares will be joined on the starting line by more than 1000 riders and will ride the first leg from Yeppoon to Rockhampton before handing it over to Tucker to take on the arduous Mount Morgan climb that Tucker is looking forward to.
