THE post office in Coulby Newham is set to reopen after thousands signed a petition to save it.

The post office in the Parkway Shopping Centre closed temporarily in February due to the resignation of the sub-postmistress and the premises no longer being available for use as a post office.

This led to more than 2,500 residents signing a petition against the move.

Since then RoyalMail said it was trying to find a suitable location for the service.

Now, following a period of public consultation, Post Office Ltd has confirmed the branch will relocate to 122 Lingfield Ash -about half a mile from its former site.

Gillian Alstead, field change adviser, said: "This relocation will help to safeguard our presence in the community in the longer term."

The date of the move has yet to be finalised.
