ELITE TO RULE AT HOME; Track Star Makes His Comeback

AS a two-year-old Coffs Harbour trainer Trevor Hardy and jockey John Keating had a high opinion of Elite Ruler.

The pair's opinion was born out when the gelding scored a slashing debut win over 1000m at Grafton on December 29 last year.

Spelled immediately, Elite Ruler returned at the same track in April but disappointed all and sundry finishing unplaced to Mr Maturity.

However, Elite Ruler was suffering from a viral complaint.

"There was muck coming out of him everywhere," Hardy recalled.

It was back to the paddock to recover, another 100 days away from racing.

Tomorrow on his home track, Hardy is hopeful Elite Ruler can break back into the winners' stall in the Mike Blewitt Ford Class 1 Handicap (1216m).

The gelding, by King Of Happiness out of Elite Encore, hails from a family steeped in winners.

Elite Encore is a half-sister to Elite Ted and Elite Score, between them the winners of 21 races.

Elite Ruler is owned by Hardy (two-thirds) and Geoff Johnson and John Cowan. …
