MAGPIE attacks have Tweed postal workers ducking for cover.

Murwillumbah Delivery Centre postman Gary Lamont has warned residents to be on the lookout for magpies.

"This happens every year, it is a seasonal thing, all posties get attacked by them," Mr Lamont said.

"September is the worst month; we are attacked from behind when we are on the road.

"The more aggressive ones will crash into your helmet and you could come off the bike.

Mr Lamont said the postal workers know how to handle the birds but there is concern for civilians. "The posties in Tweed are very experienced and they know how to handle them, it is families and people out walking with children or babies that need to be careful," Mr Lamont said.

"They fly-in from behind and they are very aggressive, the public have to be cautious if they don't have protection.

"They don't always attack others but they seem to like posties . …
