Kids Buzzing after Success at Pool Champs

COOLANGATTA and Tweed Heads Surf Club reached levels they didn't think they could at the Queensland Pool Rescue Championships at Caboolture.

Eight youngsters, including sisters Mariah and Leah Jones, Georgia Meredith, Kendal Fitzgibbons, Dominic Cormack, Alex Horne, Jye Rogers and David Horne, are still buzzing after their recent success at the state titles earlier this month.

Club president Rod Jones said it had been a big contest for the teens and there were 202 competitors at the meet.

"This is their first time at the state titles and they have been in a few competitions before that ... Mariah, Leah and Kendal went to the Australian titles in Melbourne," Jones said.

Mariah, 17, had some personal perfection with a trifecta of golden awards, winning the 15-16 years 200 metre obstacle race, the 15-16 years 100 metre manikin tow with fins and the open women's 100 metre manikin tow with fins. …
