A GROUP of green thumbs is beautifying the Bundaberg Racecourse while gaining the skills to become accredited in horticulture.

The team of Salvation Army Tom Quinn Community Centre students are revamping the grounds as part of their work to get a Certificate II.

Salvation Army Tom Quinn Community Centre services manager Tom Osborne said the project was ongoing.

C[pounds sterling]We put an emphasis on practical hands-on work skills for our course participants and we also have a strong focus on community at the centre,C[yen] he said.

C[pounds sterling]We value the support the centre receives from many volunteers and this is a great way of giving back while also giving our students real work knowledge that will serve them well when looking for a permanent job.C[yen]

Student Joan Brown started the course to look at different career options.
