Rebels Switch Tactics to Collect Softball Title

SOFTBALL: Rebels broke through for their first A-grade Mackay softball premiership in three seasons with a dominant grand final performance against Hawks on Saturday.

After finishing runner-up to Angels and Magic over the past two years, the minor premiers were fired up for a big performance in the decider at Theo Hansen Park.

They won the toss and used reverse tactics to the normal practice of sending in the opposition, batting first in an effort to make a successful start.

It worked, with Rebels scoring three runs in the first innings and keeping the Hawks scoreless.

Player of the match Kyle Krisanski-Kennedy led from the front with two home runs, and Nicky Reseck's outfield catch was judged the best of the match.

Krisanski-Kennedy and Rebels' other pitcher Samantha Bliss had a shut-out of Hawks, combining well with catcher Maleah Kennedy to keep the Hawks scoreless.

Kennedy and Bliss recently competed in the girls' state championship, while Krisanski-Kennedy will play in the Queensland U17 boys' titles starting this weekend. …
