IT'S nice to file a game fishing report that has some fishing content in it for a change, instead of having to prattle on about the marine park cancer, the East Australian Current, the weather bureau, or, in Rick's case, the opera!

A very healthy 12 boats and 42 anglers fished the Solitary Islands Game Fishing Club's monthly in-hours competition last weekend, and while the weather conditions weren't even close to what was predicted Co no surprises there Co some quality fish were caught. Out on the shelf, the current was pumping hard to the south, and the water ranged in temperature from 21 to 23.5 degrees, and while not sparkly blue, it was certainly fishy enough.

The crew on CyTriton' had an eventful day. First up, they snapped a 200 pound leader on a blue marlin that whacked every lure in the spread before hooking up, then first-time angler Paul Hosjan found himself harnessed up on 24 kilo. After an epic fight where Paul battled seasickness, an unfamiliar outfit and a fish that refused to give in, he eventually decked a superb 42. …
