Short Course Championships Start of Long-Term Plan for Super Fish

GLADSTONE swimming sensation Alex Williams will represent Queensland at the State Teams Short Course Championships in Canberra this weekend.

The 14-year-old super fish will contest six events in the final short course meet of the season and is keen to prove himself on a national scale.

"The chance to travel again is always good. Normally there's plenty of state championships but not many chances to do it on a national level," Williams said.

Williams made the state team following his recent success at the Queensland short course titles where he won two gold medals and three bronzes.

The young gun is also the reigning national champion for the 200m individual medley and won five medals, including two golds, at this year's Australian championships.

As a result, the 15-year-old was chosen in the Australian swim team to contest the Trans Tasman Championships in New Zealand earlier this year where he grabbed two individual bronze medals in the 17-18 age group. …
