Seedy Secrets of Businessman Became Part of Blackmail Plot

AWEALTHY businessman became the subject of a blackmail plot after the man who set up his sex sessions with escorts threatened to expose him.

The tycoon, whose identity is protected, was picking his child up from school when he found a note on the front seat of his car demanding he pay pounds 10,000.

It listed the times, dates and locations the victim had used call girls and warned that his wife, work associates and friends would be sent pictures and videos of the liaisons unless he coughed up the cash.

The note had been penned by John Cutting, who had arranged the businessman's sex sessions - and was involved in one of them himself when the victim requested a threesome.

Cutting, 36, himself a married father, organised a rendezvous at the Premier Inn hotel, in Washington, where he discovered the identity of his well-known client for the first time. He spent a number of weeks researching details about his victim, including his son's name, his wife's mobile number, place of work and the pubs he socialised in.

Then, on May 17 this year, Cutting made his move and dropped off the letter, which ordered the businessman to bring the money to Boldon Cemetery, in South Tyneside, two days later, warning: "I will destroy your life forever."

Newcastle Crown Court heard how the tycoon immediately felt "suicidal and panicked" at the prospect of his seedy double life being exposed and made contact with police.

They arranged for the hand-over to go ahead as planned and as soon as Cutting, of Whitburn Terrace, East Boldon, drove away with the pounds 10,000, officers swooped to arrest him.

Now, he is beginning a two-and-a-half year jail sentence after admitting blackmail. Peter Gair, prosecuting, said: "The victim in this case is a semi-retired gentleman, who lives with his partner and child but whose relationship with his partner is no longer a sexual one. As a result, the victim decided to seek the services of prostitutes, which he says would not have resulted in an emotional attachment. …
