WITNESSES watched stunned as a man in a four-wheel-drive ran into a woman walking on a footpath before throwing her into the vehicle and speeding away.

The incident happened about 3.45pm yesterday on Eyre Street at Leichhardt.

A woman, who lives across the road, said her brother was standing at the window when he called out that a woman had just been hit by a car.

"The bull bar hit her in the back and she went up on the bonnet," said the woman, who did not want her name published.

"I grabbed a notebook to get the number plate then ran outside. There was a number plate on the back but not on the front.

"I saw the bloke get out of the car and grab her by the arm and throw her back in and then he sped off. It's the freakiest stuff I ever saw."

Colin Embrey said he was sitting at a table about two metres from the footpath when the drama was played out. …
