Bogie Hits Back at Crawley Criticism; BLUE SQUARE BET PREMIER

IAN Bogie has hit back at criticism of his Gateshead side by Crawley Town manager Steve Evans, and urged the Tynesiders to bounce back from defeat to the Red Devils against Grimsby Town tonight, writes STEVE BROWN. Gateshead were close to earning a deserved point at big-spending Crawley on Saturday, only for the Blue Square Bet Premier leaders to snatch a late winner.

Gutted, Bogie nonetheless took encouragement from the performance, only to discover Evans had suggested the visitors came looking for a draw and were significantly outgunned.

"Our supporters had better get used to watching teams come here for a point, I am afraid that is what we will get," he said.

"Our opponents will believe they have played well today but the statistics will show you they had four efforts on our goal in the entire match. Compare that to our 22.

"He talked about them having numerous efforts at goal.

"Now if you talk about an effort at goal that sails 30 or 40 yards over the bar as being one worth counting, I'd start asking my lads to start shooting from the halfway line. …
