TAKE LOVED ONE TO DOCTOR DAY

Since 2001, the third Tuesday in September has been designated Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Resources.

The goal is to encourage people to recognize the importance of taking charge of their own health, and assure that family members and other loved ones also get the care they need.

The Nassau County Health Improvement Coalition and Florida Department of Health urge all residents to be sure their loved ones have regular visits with health professionals, whether doctors, nurses, dentists or other providers.

It's especially important for racial and ethnic minorities who suffer disproportionately from cancer, stroke, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and maternal and infant mortality.

Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day is a good reminder to be sure your loved ones are keeping up with their health. For those who are uninsured or short on resources, services may be available to help.

For information, call the Nassau County Health Department at 548-1800.
