Judges Get to Work on This Year's Finalists

THE judges of the North East Business Executive of the Year 2010 have begun the difficult task of choosing the finalists.

Now in their 27th year, these prestigious and closely-watched awards - which are run by The Journal in association with the Evening Gazette on Teesside - honour the region's top business people.

The judging panel, which is now under the chairmanship of former Northumbrian Water chief executive John Cuthbert, is sifting through scores of nominations and company figures before making their decisions.

It is they who decide who will be listed and who will ultimately win the coveted prizes, but they are also representatives from each of the sponsors who give their views on the long list.

This year the most prestigious awards for individuals in business in the region has once again attracted an exceptional selection of sponsor companies.

Newcastle Business School at Northumbria University, KPMG, Teesside Business School at the University of Teesside, Dickinson Dees are the main sponsors of the awards this year.

The newest award which is for Non Executive of the Year is backed by a consortium of businesses from the region which includes Muckle LLP, Brewin Dolphin, NECC, Alchemists, Baker Tilly, Yorkshire Bank, NorthStar Ventures and Sage.

David Simms, managing director of The Journal's publisher ncjMedia, said: "The mere fact that we are 27 years into this event is testament that the North East Business Executive of the Year continues to retain its status as one of the most prestigious and long-running events in the region.
