ASHINGTON didn't make the best of starts to the season, but they have certainly come good and last night recorded their seventh consecutive victory defeating Tow Law Town in the STL Northern League First Division game at the Ironworks Road ground.

Stephen Young (pen) and Andrew Johnson gave the Colliers the cushion of a twogoal interval lead but only splendid goalkeeping by Stephen Johnson kept the Lawyers in the game.

The home side recovered in the second half and after Greg Halliday missed a chance to reduce the deficit, Scott Thompson struck on 87 minutes but his effort came too late to save the game.

Whitley Bay moved into seventh place with victory at Penrith where Lee Kerr converted a 39th-minute penalty, awarded after he had been fouled.

Midway through the second period, debutant Glen Taylor rifled across goalkeeper James Holland and although the Cumbrians enjoyed a lot of possession in the closing stages, they rarely threatened the Seahorses.
