Council Petitioned to Restore Institute Foyer to Former Glory

TOM FITZGERALD, of Geneva, presented a petition to last night's Kyogle Council meeting with 575 signatures supporting the restoration of the foyer at the Kyogle Memorial Institute.

Council is currently exploring the feasibility of restoring theentrance at an estimated cost of more than $100,000.

The foyer was turned into a shop in 2003. However, it has been without a tenant for most of that time.

Recently, the Kyogle RSL Sub-branch said it would like to rent the shop because its current office in the Kyogle Senior Citizens Centre was too small.

Mr Fitzgerald, speaking during public access, said he understood there was currently no money to pay for the works.

He suggested the council could continue with current configuration until funding for the project was available.

As part of the council's assessment of the project's feasibility it conducted a survey of the community. …
