Two members of the World Golf Hall of Fame joined with the Country Club of Orange Park to raise money for the Mayo Research Center for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

Louise Suggs and Kathy Whitworth, who also were among the founding members of the LPGA, will at the CCOP on Oct. 15 for the first Louise Suggs Home Instead Senior Care Four-Ball Championship. Suggs is the honorary chairman, and Whitworth will conduct a clinic at 11 a.m., with the tournament beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Whitworth is the all-time leading winner on the major professional golf tours, with 88 LPGA titles, six major championships and seven player of the year awards. Suggs won 58 titles and 11 majors.

Playing spots remain open, with divisions for men and women. Registration begins at 10 a.m. the day of the tournament. For additional information, call (904) 318-5332 or (904) 233-1005.

ANDERSON HONORED BY PGA

The PGA of America has named Sea Island Golf club director of instruction Todd Anderson as its teacher of the year for his work with PGA Tour winners down to budding junior players.

Anderson is the second Sea Island Club instructor to receive the PGA's top award for teaching professionals. The award was established in 1986, and Jack Lumpkin of Sea Island was the 1995 recipient.

Since 2000, Anderson has been listed among Golf Digest's top-50 teachers and Golf Magazine's top-100 teachers. Since 2005, professionals working at the Sea Island Golf Club Learning Center have combined to win more than 50 times on the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour and Champions Tour, including Davis Love III, Charles Howell III, John Rollins and Brandt Snedeker.

Anderson played golf at Alabama from 1980-84 and was captain in his senior year. He has worked as a club and teaching professional at clubs such as Black Diamond, Old Marsh and The Breakers. …
