BUTCHERS shop chain Dicksons has won a major listing with supermarket giants Asda to sell its new range of pies, pastries and sausages.

The 57-year-old firm, which has around 220 staff at its 20 shops and headquarters in South Shields, South Tyneside, sealed the deal months after a trial with Tesco to sell its new premium range of savouries and meats. Dicksons, which is currently planning a pounds 1m 3,000sq ft extension to the factory at its South Shields base, will supply 21 Asda stores in the region.

Eleven more products will be added to the supermarket's portfolio of products throughout September. They will feature new-style packaging that communicates Dicksons' history and heritage as a family-run business.

Managing director Michael Dickson said: "We are really excited about such a prominent listing with Asda and think these new premium products - with our new packaging - will significantly enhance our brand presence and will be well received by customers new and old. …
