Council Calls for Meeting on Highway's Areas of Concern; Cr O'Brien Backs Bully's Drive to Fix Up the Road

COUNCILLOR Sandra O'Brien yesterday called on the Federal Government to fix the ashockinga condition of the Bruce Highway in Central Queensland.

Speaking after an army truck and semi-trailer crashed near Bajool on Wednesday afternoon and which authorities were still cleaning up yesterday morning, Cr O'Brien said Rockhampton Regional Council had resolved to organise a meeting with key stakeholders to look at areas of concern along the Bruce Highway.

And she backed The Morning Bulletin's campaign to Fix The Bruce.

"It's shocking," said Cr O'Brien, who will be acting mayor for a week in October.

"There are lots of patches here and patches there."

She said as the region grew, things would get worse.

"This highway is just so busy ... there is traffic everywhere," Cr O'Brien said.

"When I come home late at night it's not unusual to pass 10 trucks in a row.

"You only have to look at the statistics that show we will be a third bigger in a number of years. …
