NEWCASTLE Diamonds and Birmingham are facing a bottleneck situation with fixtures following last night's postponement at Perry Barr because of a waterlogged track.

A new date will have to be found for the first leg of the Premier League Knockout Cup semi-final, but exactly when that will be is likely to cause sleepless nights for the respective promoters George English and Graham Drury.

The problem revolves around the fact that the Sapphire Engineering Diamonds and the Brummies are now due to meet four times in October, and that Birmingham's alternative raceday is a Sunday, which just happens to be Newcastle's official race-night.

English said last night: "A rain-off was the last thing we needed as obviously we are not going to give up our home match day in order to go to Birmingham on a Sunday.

"The only thing I can think of at present is if Birmingham can persuade King's Lynn to redate our proposed visit there on Wednesday, October 13, so we can return to Perry Barr that night. …
