Casino Culture Building; $3 Million Community Centre to Be Finished by Next May

CASINO'S new art deco-inspired community and cultural centre is taking shape, with works on track for the $3 million building to open in early May next year.

Richmond Valley Council manager of planning and development, Angela Jones, said when the two-storey building was completed, as many as 50 tradesmen would have contributed to its construction.

"It will be a multi-functional space serving all our community groups," Ms Jones said.

It is expected the Casino Neighbourhood Centre would be the a[approximately]anchor tenant', occupying about half of the first floor.

The centre's design allows it to operate as seven individual meeting rooms, or, with the removal of concertina walls, as one large space, which could be used for public meetings or art exhibitions, Ms Jones said.

A number of community groups are expected to relocate to the building a the Baby Health Centre, the Senior Citizens Centre and the Neighbourhood Centre a when it is ready. …
