NUNTHORPE Athletic JFC Under-13s A, sponsored by CCPS and Wells Solutions, continued their league campaign on the road to host's Bishop Auckland Saint Mary's in what was a cracking game of football.

In a game that could have gone either way it was Mary's who got off to the perfect start, capitalising on a defensive error by the visitors' back line, in the fourth minute.

An attempted back pass fell short of the Nunthorpe area allowing a Mary's forward to nip in to take the ball round the stranded Nunthorpe keeper and slide it into an empty net.

Nunthorpe though responded immediately and within a minute were on level terms.

Good work down the left by Watling saw him push on into the area where he squared the ball across the face of goal for the alert Charlie Rennie to slip the ball home at the far post.

With both sides battling for everything and the game being played at a tremendous pace more goals looked likely and it was to be Nunthorpe who would strike again.

Fine play out wide on the right by McGurk and Hudson saw the ball laid off to Jacob Watling, running into the area from the left, where from a tight angle, he unleashed a tremendous drive that flew across the keeper into the far corner of the net.

With the home side's midfield cancelling out Nunthorpe's fluent passing game and disrupting any flowing passage of play to great effect the game was finely balanced with both sides creating chances that they could not convert.

Nunthorpe came close when Holden turned his man, to create space in the area, only to blast his shot high over the bar. Mary's responded with a break through the centre which saw a home side player outstrip the visitors' defence to bring a fine tip over from McGreggor in the Nunthorpe goal.

The resulting corner fell to a Mary's player only for him to snatch his shot high and wide. …
