Truck smashes pole towards road

MARYBOROUGH's Ferry Street was closed off for most of Saturday morning as emergency crews worked to stop a power pole from crushing vehicles.

About 9.30am a truck smashed into the pole on the corner of Thomas and Ferry streets, causing it to lean towards the road.

The street was reopened just before noon.

No one was injured.

QUEENSLAND'S newest Supreme Court judge, David Boddice, is in Maryborough this week. Justice Boddice has only been in the job for three months, having been appointed to the Queensland Supreme Court on July 2.

His legal career, however, has spanned 25 years and he has appeared in many high-profile cases such as the defence of radio commentator John Laws in a defamation suit, the Fitzgerald inquiry and the Bundaberg Hospital inquiry.

Justice Boddice was admitted to the bar in 1984 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2001.

He served on the Anti-Discrimination Tribunal for three years from 2006 to 2009. …
