Days to Warm a Keen Surfer's Heart

AFTER days of overcast skies, as thousands of Sunshine Coast school students headed back to the books, the crowds dispersed, surf came up and the sun came out.

At Maroochydore yesterday, the clean break reached 1.5metres a and a few surfers like Christian Hearn were in their element.

Christian, a University of the Sunshine Coast student who comes from Western Australia, said he had been missing the size and consistency of waves he had become used to south of Perth.

Yesterday, it was another story.

"It was nice to get a good wave," Christian, who hails from Yallingup, near Margaret River, said.

The size of the break was a point of difference, though.

In winter, a good set at Margaret River tips eight metres.

"There were a lot less people out today a yesterday was packed," he said.

The third-year town planning student admitted he might be back in the water today.

"It's a matter of priorities," he said.

His interest in surfing goes further than just the water. …
