DAVID BAZAN

Tonight

David Bazan, a self-proclaimed changed man from when he fronted the Christian rock band Pedro the Lion, will be in Jacksonville tonight.

His voice is still there, as is his ability to write vivid emotional lyrics, but his message is different. He has lost his faith and identifies himself as an agnostic, he has told NPR, Christianity Today and several other publications during the past year.

His first solo album, "Curse Your Branches," which came out about a year ago, reflects his conflict with religion. NPR.org writer Stephen Thompson called it a spiritual "breakup letter."

For fans here, whether secular or Christian, tonight's show at Jack Rabbits in San Marco will likely be the first time they've seen Bazan since his Pedro the Lion days. He's touring with a band, and the opening acts are The Mynabirds of Omaha, Neb., and Jacksonville's Tuffy, who plan to do an acoustic set.

Tickets are $10 in advance. Go to jackrabbitsonline.com/joomla or call (904) 398-7496.
