Conditions Fail to Stop Shooters Hitting Their Mark

A FIELD class target shooting event, where 20 shooters lined up from the 100-yard mound in the standing position, took place at the Grafton Rifle Club last week.

The conditions were overcast and sprinkling with the constant threat of rain throughout the match.

Top off the rifle was Andrew Brown 99 (with 12); second a Peter Brown 99 (with 10); third a captain Nick with 98 (with 5).

Seventeen possibles were shot on the day with Andrew Brown, Peter Brown, and Nick Abrahall shooting three each, Robert Durrington, Andrew Geary and Greg Mills-Thom shooting two apiece and Jake Lynch, Derek Higgins and Maria Paull shooting one possible each.

Impending rain and low light couldn't dampen the spirits of the few hardened field class shooters on Saturday. Braving the unsavoury conditions, with no thought of the consequences of the damp on their clothing or the furniture, this weary lot pushed on through the worsening conditions to achieve a rare milestone in shooting history.
