A CASINO croupier is at the centre of a suspected card table sting involving thousands of pounds.

Johnathan Cox was arrested for allegedly organising the scam at the Aspers Casino in The Gate in Newcastle.

Two other men, 31 and 33, both believed to be friends, were also arrested and quizzed on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud.

The Chronicle understands casino bosses became suspicious after large amounts of money were lost on tables when Cox was the dealer.

Aspers contacted the Gambling Commission after experts examined CCTV footage of Cox working on blackjack tables and punto banco tables - both cardbased games.

It is believed the two customers had won pounds 18,000 on one occasion, and pounds 12,000.

Cox, of Mount View, Swalwell, Gateshead, is said to have "arranged" the cards while using a card shuffling machine the casino uses called a Shuffle Star, to ensure customers had odds stacked in their favour. …
