I NOTICE New Labour's disciples still do not have the courage to admit to the unholy financial mess that the last Government left with its astronomical debts.

I have constantly stressed the point that New Labour had over 12 years to get proper financial regulation in place before things went pear-shaped. For years, we were told Gordon Brown was the most prudent and intelligent chancellor in history.

As John W Gray puts it (Voice of the North, October 5), US banks gave people mortgages they could not pay for. I need to inform him that this country did the same thing and, yes, because of it, Gordon Brown can indeed be blamed.

I challenged the Labour disciples to make realistic and specific suggestions on how the party would attempt to cut the gigantic deficit.

John W Gray hilariously states that firstly he would confiscate lands owned by the monarchy. I may be wrong, but were these lands not given to the state years ago in return for an annual allowance to maintain it? …
