A NEW chance at a better life is now available for local women battling drug and alcohol addiction.

The Lions district governor, Peter Clarke, yesterday formally handed over three new self-contained units to the new Sherwood Glen centre, a sister unit to Sherwood Cliffs.

Sherwood Glen will offer drug and alcohol rehabilitation for single women and their children, building on the successful results of the Sherwood Cliffs facility, which caters for single men, couples and their families.

Local Lions clubs have been behind the women-only facility since Sherwood Cliff directors Honi and John Reifler first floated the idea several years ago.

Under the leadership of Coffs City Lions Alan Scolari, Lions District 2010N with the backing of Lions Club International Foundation and the Australian Lions Foundation have raised $70,000.

The money was originally intended to build one unit, however, with careful budgeting and the use of volunteer labour, the team at Sherwood Cliffs was able to build three units. …
