I'M due to start work at 8.30am each weekday. It never happens. At 8.30ish I'm at the intersection telling the traffic lights to hurry the (rude word) up.

My late note reads like a chapter out of a Dr Seuss book, so I don't offer excuses as I nod agood morninga to my colleagues.

Monday, Cristian, eight, calls out, "Oh no a mum." I shot to the kitchen sink where he was standing and looked to where he was pointing.

"The tooth fairy dropped my tooth, it must have been too heavy," he said.

After writing a note to the tooth fairy lord with advice about putting on an extra fairy for the big jobs, we were on the road.

On Tuesday, Cris was in a panic when he couldn't find his footy cards.

He'd teed up a swap and a coveted Lockyer card was at stake. We didn't find them.

I wiped his tears and we were off.

Wednesday we were on time and feeling fine driving down Bridge Road when Cris called "Mum a look a in the drain, a crocodile."

"No mate a probably a piece of wood," I offered. …
