Bruce to Leave It Late over Bent KO

STEVE BRUCE will leave it as late as possible before deciding whether Darren Bent is fit enough to face Blackburn Rovers.

The Black Cats' seven-goal leading scorer returned from England duty nursing a groin strain that kept him out of Tuesday's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro at Wembley, and puts in jeopardy his ever-present Premier League record for Sunderland.

But Bruce says the fact the Blackburn game has been switched to Monday does at least give Bent a chance of recovering in time to make his 46th consecutive league appearance for the We a r s i d e r s. "Darren Bent still has a chance of playing on Monday and I wouldn't even necessarily say it's a slim chance - if he's fit, he plays," said Bruce.

"What I will say though is that if the game was a normal 3pm kick-off on a Saturday, I don't think we would take the chance.

"What Darren has is a minor groin strain.

"He picked it up in training for England on Monday and it's a case of seeing how it reacts. …
