Dettori's Top Afternoon

Article excerpt

A PLEASING comeback for Modeyra in the Lanwades Stud Severals Stakes capped a sparkling Newmarket afternoon for Frankie Dettori.

The Italian snatched four winners on the curtain-raiser to Champions' Day, with three of the smaller events as well as the competitive all-aged Listed fillies' contest going his way.

Modeyra is dear to the heart of Dettori's main employers Godolphin as she is a Darley Stud home-bred, but had been off the racecourse since making a winning debut at Doncaster almost a year ago.

"I'm very pleased with that," said Meehan. "On Wednesday I put him in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud and that's a possibility, as is the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.

"Frankie said we've not remotely seen the best of him and the horse has done nothing but improve."

Dettori swooped late on Argocat (11-1) to deprive the hot favourite El Muqbil in the EBF Anglo Hibernian Bloodstock Insurance Maiden Stakes. …
