NEW Liverpool owners, same old Tim Cahill.

The Australian shoved the corks back in the champagne bottles with a man-of-the-match display as Everton claimed a 2-0 victory over their old rivals in Sunday night's Merseyside derby.

A thumping 34th-minute strike at Goodison Park was his fifth goal in such contests Co making him Everton's highest scorer against their local rivals since World War II.

The prolific Socceroo glided on to a bouncing cross from Seamus Coleman and smashed the ball with his right boot straight past Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina. It was Cahill's fourth goal from seven English Premier League outings this season and his performance put to bed concerns over his niggling knee injury.

Cahill (pictured) also did his bit in defence, stifling some of Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard's forward thrusts as Liverpool made its worst start to a season since 1953-54.

Mikel Arteta added the second goal four minutes after the break and only goal difference keeps Liverpool (six points from eight matches) from the bottom of the table. …
