Clay County has hired a familiar name - Colin Baenziger and Associates - to recruit its next county manager.

In 2005, an earlier version of the commission hired Wellington-based Baenzinger to help find Fritz Behring, who is departing in November for Pinal County, Ariz. In addition, the Orange Park Town Council has hired the firm to search for its next town manager.

Commission Chairman Travis Cummings announced the $21,000 contract at Tuesday's commission meeting. Baenziger, selected as the top of three candidates reviewed by the county purchasing office, is a "reputable" firm, Cummings said.

Cummings said this week that the commission will appoint an interim county manager to temporarily succeed Behring until a permanent replacement is hired.

Behring will begin his new job Monday, Nov. 22. Commissioners hoped to hire a permanent replacement before he left, but only recently began the process by soliciting a professional search firm. …
