Man under DVA Hurls Workboot at De Facto and Knocks Her Down

BRENDON Bailey threw a workboot at his de facto partner, striking her in the face.

He also knocked her to the ground during the assault.

Bailey, 22, unemployed, pleaded guilty in the Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday to breaching a Domestic Violence Act protection order on September 29.

Police were called to a North Mackay residence at 2.30pm and on arrival they were told that Bailey had assaulted his de facto partner when he came to the address to collect some personal belongings.

There was a verbal argument and then Bailey threw a workboot at her and hit her on the cheek, prosecutor Senior Constable Wayne Smith said.

He also knocked her to the ground and threw another shoe at her.

Police noticed a red mark on the woman's face.

Bailey was removed from the premises and was given a notice to appear in court.

He was remanded in custody for two nights and Magistrate Ross Risson sentenced him yesterday and said he was considering imposing a term of imprisonment, but had decided that any penalty should provide help for Bailey, to ensure he didn't commit a similar offence in the future. …
