SEALING Gulmarrad's McIntyres Lane has stalled on the crest of a hill a for now.

Initially a motion was put forward by Councillor Karen Toms to have the sealing of 800 metres of the gravel road included in council's 2011/2012 operational plan and delivery program.

But in the interests of safety, at last Tuesday's meeting council resolved unanimously to allocate $15,000 toward the design and costing of the reconstruction of the hill section of McIntyres Lane.

When deputy general manager Rob Donges raised the issue of the road complying with RTA guidelines, the danger and expense of the hill section, 1.5km from the Pacific Highway, became apparent.

Mr Donges said he received indications that to comply with RTA guidelines for an 80km/h road, 8.5 metres would have to be cut off the crest of the hill, and for a 50km/h road, the figure dropped to three metres.

Cr Toms then withdrew her initial motion but continued to push for the sealing of the road. …
