Iconic Pie Shop to Go under the Hammer

ANYONE craving for a slice of Maryborough's business pie, mixed with a dash of heritage, will be served a golden opportunity next month.

Augie Sauer's iconic pie shop Co the land, building and business Co in Park Street is going under the hammer on Saturday, November 13, at 10am.

Owner Robyn Hopper said the 91-year-old pie shop, which closed in June, was still hot property, particularly with travellers who hadn't heard of its closure.

"It's still a brilliant business opportunity," she said.

"We were in there the other day cleaning and cars were still pulling up outside," she said. "Caravans were lining up in the street and people even came in the front door looking for pies."

Sauer's pies were legendary, not only in the Heritage City but also among people across the country who had tasted the Aussie icon's local version.

The legend had its beginnings when Augie Sauer started in the bakery business in 1919 and delivered pies on foot. …
