MICK TAIT insists Blyth Spartans' season starts now - after back-to-back Blue Square Bet North wins infused confidence in a club rocked by a "torrid" month.

The Croft Park outfit were forced to slash their budget following the FA Cup exit to Vauxhall Motors at the end of September - prompting the departure of Stephen Harrison, Calvin Smith, Ian Graham and Sam Grieveson.

But Blyth followed up the previous week's win at Eastwood Town with a 3-0 victory over Hyde United - whose Andy Smart missed a penalty, Shaun Whalley scored an own goal and whose Scott McNiven was sent off - on Sa t u r d a y. Chris Swailes and Paul Brayson added the other goals, and Blyth boss Tait said: "It was comfortable, and when they got the man sent off that was game over.

"I thought we played really well first half without getting any reward. We said at half-time 'Just keep playing the same way and the goals will come'. We created loads of chances but our final ball and a bit of poor finishing let us down, but it was hard with the conditions. …
