Heritage Home Owners Put Trust in Delegates

HERITAGE and tourism will be top of the agenda when owners of historic homes meet with local government delegates at next month's National Trust of Queensland State Conference in Ipswich.

Ipswich and West Moreton branch president Arthur Frame said topics could include rates relief or the streamlining of government processes.

"Through this debate, we hope to raise the profile of heritage in a positive way," he said.

"It's important to get the players in the room.

"Ipswich is certainly one of the better local governments when it comes to heritage management, although there are threats like the extraordinary growth and costs of maintenance."

Rockton House, dating from 1855, will be one of the heritage homes visited by delegates during the conference.

Co-owner Angela Geertsma hopes for more financial help from governments in the future.

She said "individuals" were preserving Ipswich's heritage well.

"Council is doing a good job for heritage," she said. …
