Lucas Wants One More Local Crown; Rising Star Craves Warwick Win before US Stint

TOP Warwick saddle bronc rider Lucas Wilson has the world at his feet.

However, before he takes on the world he has his eye on this weekend's Warwick Rodeo.

Wilson sits fourth on the Australian Professional Rodeo Association's saddle-bronc standings. A win at the lucrative Warwick Rodeo, one of Australia's biggest rodeos, will shoot him up the ladder.

Standing in his way are some of Australia's best riders and toughest horses.

"That's just it," Wilson said. "The top riders in Australia take on the top horses."

Wilson, 23, is enjoying a strong season on the APRA circuit following his success in the United States last year, where he finished eighth in the rookie world standings.

Wilson said he planned on returning to the United States next year, but before he leaves he wants to get his name on the Warwick Rodeo trophy one more time.

"I won Warwick in 2008," he said.

"The APRA aren't quite sure if I'm the only Warwick-born rider to win in Warwick or if there was another rider to win it back around 1950. …
