FROM a backyard business venture to being internationally recognised for producing the perfect way to start the morning, the Byron Bay Coffee Company has come a long way.

The company celebrated its 21st anniversary last night on its property at Newrybar with 130 friends, clients, staff and suppliers.

Owners Annie and Franco Ivancich planted the first seed that would grow into the Byron Bay Coffee Company in 1989.

The couple, who moved to the area in search of a sea change, stopped growing coffee on their hinterland property and began focusing on roasting and distributing.

"We believe in keeping it simple with the four main blends that we have and we make sure they are consistent," Mrs Ivancich said.

The Byron Bay Coffee Company sources its Rainforest Alliance certified organic coffee beans from Central and South America, Mexico and Nicaragua.

Mrs Ivancich has noticed a a[approximately]huge' trend towards people consuming ethical foods. …
