Safety First for Chief; Ex-Officer Takes Helm at Protection Body

A RETIRED police chief has taken on a key role in ensuring the safety and welfare of Middlesbrough's children.

Mark Braithwaite, Cleveland Police's former Detective Chief Superintendent, has been appointed the chair of Middlesbrough's Local Safeguarding Children Board (MLSCB).

Earlier this year all local authorities were required to set up the boards which act as watchdogs for agencies working with children.

The work of MLSCB is to challenge partners within the Children's Trust on their success in ensuring that children and young people are kept safe.

The Children's Trust is responsible for working with partners, including schools, colleges, social care and health organisations, to achieve improved outcomes for children. Mr Braithwaite believes it is important the group finds a way to help practitioners, such as teachers, social workers, and health professionals, make the right decisions when it comes to the welfare of a child. …
