APOPULAR farm shop is gearing up for a fun and festive season. With British Sausage Week from November 1 to 7, and the festive season fast approaching, staff at the award-winning Blagdon Farm shop - six miles north of Newcastle just off the A1 - are gearing themselves up for a busy time.

With a plethora of national and international awards under their belt, The Blagdon Farm Shop know just what it takes to make the perfect banger.

With over 18 varieties of pork sausage, as well as more exotic flavours such as venison, they really do have a sausage for everyone.

Butchery manager Simon Osborne explains: "Years ago, sausages were looked upon as being a cheap meat product made up of poorer ingredients. Not so, now.

"A butchers shop is now judged upon the quality of their sausages, as the public have become more and more discerning. Top-quality, fresh ingredients combined with skill and care are the most vital parts in any good banger."

Simon added: "In the past, we have won many awards for our sausages here at Blagdon. We are currently in the regional final with our Breakfast Sausage, to be judged by Craig Revel Horwood.

"We have decided to give our customers a big 'thank you' by way of helping us celebrate British Sausage Week with a special offer.

"So, if you're after something for a casserole or a delicious butty by the bonfire, The Blagdon Farm Shop butchers counter is the place to go."

At this time of year, the shops close relationship with the farm and other local suppliers really comes into its own.

The shop offers some of the tastiest and most succulent poultry and meat the region can offer, including free-range turkeys, ducks, geese and chickens from their own farm and other small producers, as well as fresh, local handpicked vegetables.

Butcher Simon said: "Since the shop opened eight years ago, sales of our poultry have grown year on year but, last year, things just went crazy - it seems that the word had got out just how good our turkeys and geese are. …
